Bunka Fashion Series Garment Design Textbook 5 Coats & Capes
The first five Garment Design Textbooks in the Bunka Fashion Series have been published in English, and are designed to help the student acquire garment-making skills and a general knowledge regarding clothing, as well as develop the student's creativity and sense of aesthetics.
Volume 5, Coats & Capes, looks at the history of these two garments, and explains pattern drafting theories by garment style, name and design. It also explains techniques to draft patterns for individual parts and develop the basic pattern into various designs, as well as sewing methods for individual parts and production of the actual garment.
Has examples of actual garment production, techniques for sewing coats with set-in sleeves and raglan sleeves are explained in detail, with a focus on heavy woolen fabrics that protect against the cold. The book makes ample use of diagrams to ensure that all processes from pattern making, cutting, and sewing of individual parts to fitting and adjusting the garment and final stitching, are clear and easy to understand.
The English textbooks are exact translations of their Japanese counterparts and were designed to be easy to use by Bunka Gakuen students wanting to go beyond Japan's shores, as well as to act as a bridge between Bunka Gakuen and students studying fashion elsewhere in the world.
