Unlike the big guide books, this volume does not bore you with minute detail, nor does it spoon feed you with every tiny aspect as to tours, hikes, walks and other activities. As a geography professor, I designed this book to give you just enough background to make wise choices as to what to see and do. Argentina, Uruguay and Chile are wonderful countries to visit. They are prosperous, quite advanced and have gracious life styles. All three are very clean and offer good restaurants, nice shops and when you are out on ship sponsored tours or even on your own in a local taxi, you will be respected as an honoured visitor. And if you choose to walk on your own in the ports of call, you will be as relatively safe as in any European port. Of course there are occasional pickpockets or people who will pester you to buy something, but not to the extent that you will be uncomfortable or fearful. These are the three most enjoyable countries in all of Latin America. And the scenery on these cruises around the tip of South America is breathtaking to say the least.
