The Parallel Triangle: A Story of Coming to Terms With Sexual Identity
Who am I? Why am I unlike everyone else? Questions like these have occupied many a teenagers psyche in the tumultuous years between first hints of self-awareness and the elusive plateau of self-knowledge. In the mind of a person born gay or lesbian, an additional question echoes, which may, for varying lengths of time, foreshadow all others: Why do I yearn for and dream of same-sex partners? The Parallel Triangle is an absorbing, convoluted, and sometimes unsettling answer to this question. It explores the darker side and consequences of denial through the study and interplay of its characters. The book concentrates on three gay men, each handling his homosexuality based on his own background. However, there is another element in the form of an adrenalin-like medication, which is used by one character, Kamal, a transplanted middle easterner, to rid him of his homosexuality. This pharmacological agent comes to symbolize denial of what nature has intended for Kamal. It results in Kamals transformation into a suspicious, almost maniacal villain/crusader. The novel becomes an intriguing mystery as well as a reflective and poignant prose that will hold the readers attention until the last page is turned.
