â€œMe too, Mama,â€ Savannah agreed. In fact, her heart was still racing.

â€œWe arenâ€™t expectinâ€™ anyone, are we, Lottie?â€ Bill asked.

â€œNo. Not at all,â€ Lottie said.

Savannah watched as Bill quickly strode toward the door. He grabbed the rifle heâ€™d set next to it when heâ€™d entered earlier and then called, â€œHello? Whoâ€™s that?â€

A deep, masculine voice answered from the other side of the door. â€œMr. Dickerson? Itâ€™s me, Trenner Barnett. Do you remember me, sir?â€

â€œTrenner Barnett?â€ Bill mumbled, frowning as he immediately pulled the bolt on the door and opened it.
