Aloha Pilgrims on the Camino: How We Navigated Culture, Language, Accommodations and Meals with Grace, Dignity and Humor… Usually
With the Camino's increasing popularity, adults from around the world are drawn to the unusual and dramatic walk that is uniquely called a pilgrimage. This is a true, raw, and sometimes humorous experience of two 80-year olds as told through the eyes of their recently early-retired daughter who escorted them along the way. Inexperience didn't pose a problem for these seniors. Although there were concerns about language, meals, terrain, and accommodations, desire and determination were never an issue. Never having hiked, let alone with backpacks before, they spent months researching gear, purchasing the basics, and practicing walking around their local Maui streets and hills. To accomplish this 500-mile journey they read the accounts of many who had walked before and learned how to reduce nice-to-haves to minimal need-to haves. Their adventure and spirit is documented here to entertain and possibly encourage other mature active travelers to follow in their footsteps. At the very least, expect to be delighted in this personal account of the Aloha Pilgrims on Spain's Camino de Santiago.
