End-Of-Life Ethics and the Nursing Assistance
This book describes a research-based project that was developed to ass ess Certified Nursing AssistantsF (CNAs) knowledge and attitudes about ethical issues and end-of-life decision-making and to provide educati onal intervention and support. CNAs provide most of the hands-on care in long term care facilities and develop close relationships with resi dents under their care. As a result, treatment termination of care can have a marked impact on CNAs. Based on the projectFs findings, an ac companying workbook was designed to enable nursing homes to conduct an ethics evaluation program for their CNAs. This workbook Teaching End- of-Life Ethics to CNAs (contained in this volume) is authored by Orah R. Burack and colleagues. It has useful appendices including a questio nnaire, an instruction booklet for ethics education with responses fro m the original study, an evaluation form, and a CNA ethics booklet. Th is workbook will enable nursing facilities to implement the program on their own.
