Five Spicy Adventure Stories (Illustrated)

• This eBook is illustrated with all the drawings that appeared in the original publication of the stories in "Spicy Adventure" magazine.
Robert Leslie Bellem was a prolific American writer who wrote in a variety of genres and for many pulp magazines, especially those of Culture Publications that included mastheads such as "Spicy Detective," "Spicy Adventure," "Spicy Western," and "Spicy Mystery." After the demise of the pulps, Bellem started writing for television and contributed scripts to shows such as "The Lone Ranger," "Adventures of Superman" (1950s version), the original "Perry Mason," "77 Sunset Strip," and others. His most famous creation was the hardboiled detective Dan Turner, Hollywood Detective, who narrates the stories in the first person in a racy, slangy style that made them very popular at the time. Bellem also wrote at least two novels, of which the best known is Blue Murder.
These stories show why Bellem was one of the most popular pulp writers. They appeared in "Spicy Adventure" magazine and are written in the same over-the-top, fast action style laced with sex that typify the Dan Turner stories. These feature different male characters, but plenty of scantily dressed or naked ladies.
The first two stories feature Tate Shevlin an American Soldier of Fortune as he works with his beloved Golden Girl. The next two are adventures of Johnnie Piper a newsreel cameraman. And, in the last story, Cliff Downey, the ace operative of the Consolidated Detective Agency, goes after an international thief and has to face the operative of a competitor.
