Her decision to travel to South Carolina sets in motion Heavenscribe, a spiritual transformation devised by angels to aid a dying world.
Bel Petersen seems to have it all: ample means, a loving marriage and a rewarding family life. But sheâ€™s suffered through a year of unexpected deaths, and near-constant nightmares that portend the downfall of civilization. Now sheâ€™s visiting Health Presbyterian daily as Milly battles a relentless bone cancer sure to end their decades-long friendship in a matter of weeks.
One evening as Bel unlocks her car in the hospitalâ€™s parking lot, four ambulances stream toward the Emergency entrance. Thereâ€™s been a horrific traffic accident. Sheâ€™s shocked to discover one of the victims didnâ€™t make it into an ambulanceâ€”and heâ€™s bleeding out in a high school studentâ€™s car. Bel sends the student running to the hospital for help, and tends to the grievously injured man.
His dying words will lead her to Zobie, and reveal the spiritual awakening they must undertake together. If they fail, The Dimming will consume every human soul on the planet.

In Heavenscribe, Part Two, Bel must come to terms with her own supernatural gifts. How will she accomplish this?

Not easily. Unlike Zobie, who has known of her psychic gifts since childhood, Bel is ill prepared to accept her surprising gifts. Sheâ€™s a proud homemaker with a rich family life, and she struggles to understand why an ordinary woman would come into possession of such powers. Of course, Bel is anything but ordinaryâ€”sheâ€™s devoted to her family and works tirelessly for a dozen charities in Charleston. Her goodness provides the key to unlocking her many gifts, as does a memory from long ago that shaped her notions of religion and the loving artist that created the world.

What was the inspiration behind Heavenscribe?

Although most adults wonâ€™t readily discuss angels, telepathy or metaphysical subjects, many of us harbor private stories that donâ€™t quite line up with everyday reality. The loved one that seems to speak from beyond the grave. An intuition or a dream that proves astonishingly accurate. Or a gut feeling that urges you to go left instead of right on the street, ensuring you bump into a friend you havenâ€™t seen in years. In Heavenscribe, I wanted to explore the mystical life that underpins the practical world, and gives our lives a sense of wonder.

Why are you releasing Heavenscribe in sections?

The story touches on politics, religion, family life, metaphysical subjects, and the overarching spiritual journey of civilization as a wholeâ€”too much material for one book! I wanted to give readers a story brimming with inspiration and miracles, but in a grounded, practical setting. This is one reason why the natural world plays a key roleâ€”thereâ€™s nothing more wondrous than the pretty blue planet we inhabit. Trying to compress the rich plot into 400 pages wouldâ€™ve meant leaving out many of the more inspirational elements.

What can readers expect in Heavenscribe, Part Three?

Zobie and Bel begin to discover the true meaning of Heavenscribeâ€”and the threat theyâ€™ll soon face.
