How to Camp Out: Advice from a Civil War veteran

John M. Gould was ahead of his time, seeing an era when people would hike and camp for fun. And he knew all about it: As an infantryman with the Union Army, he'd marched and camped in an organized group for several years. In 1877 he wrote down what he knew, and the result is a book that shows you how a company of soldiers organized the work on campaign. It offers wonderful insight to living historians, right down to the best haircut. The book is in the public domain; this reprint from Broken Lance Enterprises came about because Civil War reenactors wanted a non-digital copy.
