Our Road Back: A Collection of Personal Accounts from Patients with Connective Tissue Diseases Treated with Antibiotic Therapies

This book is a collection of personal accounts as told by those with connective tissue diseases and subsequently treated with antibiotics and supportive therapies. Each story is unique and personal, but for decades all have found their way to antibiotic treatment options for their respective diseases. Some journeyed to Iowa often by way of referral from The Road Back Foundation, a non-profit powerhouse established to continue the pioneering works of the late Thomas McPherson Brown, MD. In the backdrop of the gently rolling hills of northwest Iowa with its sparse farming communities and harsh winters, patients and their loved ones bring with them personal accounts of having fallen ill, their often tumultuous journey to find answers, and their enlightened road to recovery. Readers will learn firsthand of extraordinary patients who took charge of their own medical illnesses, proactively researched their diseases, then navigate their way to finding their proverbial road back home. Despite at times having painful, debilitating arthritic conditions and for a few, not owning a telephone, automobile, or internet, these brave patients overcame not only difficulties in their personal lives but also backlash from the healthcare community in order to receive the antibiotic treatment option and supportive therapies.
