Short & Tall Tales of Hilton Head Island

Preface: In recent years I have frequently been asked by the booksellers of Hilton Head Island to do a coffee-table book about the Island.... The Sands of Time - A History of Hilton Head Island was written by me in response to a request by Island book people and has been a popular history ever since its publication in 1989. Given these associations the coffee-table book seemed like a winning pleasure. Having lived on Hilton Head since 1960, I had many anecdotes to tell. Too often, more than twice-told tales lose more than just their accuracy. Some of the stories were told to me by native Islanders, others by "old-timers" like myself, and a few actually happened to me and my friends. This is a way of passing them along, sprinkled amid outstanding photographs by naturalist, ornithologist, environmentalist Barry Lowes, some sketches by my husband Walter Greer, and assorted memorabilia shared by many.
