The organization of the Student Activities Manual (SAM) parallels that of the Hoy dÃa Volume 1 student text. Activities corresponding to each Tema in the textbook recycle and reinforce the vocabulary and grammar presented in the textbook. The Diario at the end of the activities for Temas 2 and 4 guides learners in writing paragraphs on the topics of the chapter.

As in the textbook, the communicative nature of activities has been maintained so that students are required to think about the meaning of what they are writing, and grammatical forms are not practiced without relating them to meaning.
