The Deception of the Thrush

It’s 1964. The Beatles invade America. Freedom summer begins. Three young voting rights workers disappear in Mississippi. President Johnson signs the Voting Rights Act into law. Soon, he’ll deploy American troops in South Vietnam. And Jason Follett, a Midwestern boy with a secret, heads to college in a world that’s turning upside down. Behind the mask of a successful athlete and fraternity leader, he’s dogged by questions about his homosexuality. To protect his secret, he violates his moral code. Confronting the ugly face of racism, he finds his inner voice. He protests against the war. His overbearing father forces him to conform. But he breaks with his past to find a new direction. The assassinations of Dr. King and Robert Kennedy, however, disrupt his plans. Finally, his 1-A status throws into question his ultimate destiny.
