Author Bio:
Janie Lidey is a speaker, author and Emmy Award winning composer who dedicated herself to teaching music in the public schools of Alaska for 26 years. She started out teaching music in remote, fly-in only villages and in 2011, after 17 years as choir director and guitar teacher at Grammy Award winning East High School, Janie took a leap of faith, stepped out of the safety and comfort of one school and made the world her classroom.
Lidey has been recognized for her excellence through winning an Emmy for her songwriting; a Grammy for the fine arts program she helped direct at East High School in Anchorage, Alaska; the Mayor’s Arts Award which recognizes excellence in music education; and, a spot on the George Lucas Edutopia website for her role in helping make the world a better place.
Mrs. Lidey not only taught her students to sing and play the guitar, she taught them to live their lives with passion, kindness, love, hope and gratitude. The most important lesson was to instill the belief in her students that they could be or do anything they dreamed or imagined. Seeing the effect she was having on her students throughout the years made Janie feel a responsibility to step out and contribute on a global level.
Janie speaks to audiences across the country inspiring them to take a Leap of Faith and create the life they have only dared to dream about. She has spoken at events including: The Rachel’s Challenge Summit in Denver Colorado, (Columbine Tragedy) Women’s Conferences in Alaska, California and Iowa, Lion’s International 8 to Great Event in Anchorage, Alaska, American Cancer Relays along the west coast, Craig Duswalt’s RockStar Marketing Boot Camp in Los Angeles, California and Personal Growth Events on the west coast to name a few. She also had the opportunity to perform alongside John Carter Cash at Willie Nelson’s 80th birthday tribute in Nashville, Tennessee.

“For many years I had the honor of observing Janie’s almost magical ability to connect with people from every walk of life, inspiring them to believe in themselves and their ability to make a positive change in the world.”
Michael Graham, Chief Academic Officer, Anchorage School District
