This multivolume commentary examines the Qur'an, Islam's holiest book and source of religious laws and practices in Muslim countries . This first volume investigates the first nine suras of the Qur'an's 114 chapters and contains the Qur'an's text complemented with these well-annotated elements: Introduction, which outlines key political, historical, social, or controversial issues; Critical analysis of selected verses, which focuses on relevant historical accounts, scientific information, and literary structure; Variant readings of selected verses, which highlight differences in syntax, word choice, and meaning from current common Arabic readings and the earliest formal codification of the Qur'an; Abrogated verses with analytical comments, which explain the ramifications of their nullification. Additional resources include informative articles, "Who's Who" of important early Muslim leaders and scholars, glossary, timeline, maps, subject index, and comprehensive bibliography. القرآن هو أساس الإسلام ومصدر القوانين والممارسات الدينية في الدول والمجتمعات الإسلامية. يحوي القرآن 114 سورة. وهذا الكتاب يتناول السور التسع الأولى بتحليل ونقد النص القرآني للآيات مع الأخذ بعين الاعتبار سياقها التاريخي والمعلومات الموثقة والمنطقية وأيضا بتحليل الهيكل الأدبي لها. أما القراءات المختلفة فهي تسلط الضوء على قراءات هامة للنص القرآني للصحابة بطرق تختلف عن مصحف عثمان الحالي، وكذلك الناسخ والمنسوخ وهو ظاهرة ينفرد بها القرآن حيث يتم إلغاء مئات الآيات أو الاستعاضة عنها بآيات أخرى. ويحتوي أيضًا على عدة مقالات قيمة تهم القارئ، مثل "جمع القرآن" و "المرأة في الإسلام"، وغيرها. وقد اعتمد كتاب معضلة القرآن في دراسته على المصادر الإسلامية المعتمدة والمراجع الكلاسيكية الإسلامية بلغاتها الأصلية إرضاء للباحث الجاد كما أن تعليقات الكتاب مكتوبة بلغة سلسة تسمح للقارئ العادي بالاستمتاع بها في ذات الوقت الذي تمنحه معرفة إضافية بالإسلام.
